Deeside ice rink first opened its doors in 1973 and was quickly followed by Deeside’s very first ice hockey program. In March 1974 Deeside staged its first ice hockey game when London Lions faced local team, the Altrincham Aces. By the end of that year the rink had its own team and the Deeside Dragons were born.
In 1998 Flintshire County Council opened a new facility and started a rebranded team, the ‘Flintshire Freeze’. The ‘Freeze’ operated out of Deeside until the 2011/12 season when, to the delight of many in and around the local area the team reverted to its traditional name of ‘The Deeside Dragons’.
