McKenzie Calls For Fans Support

Submitted by on March 7, 2017 – 11:18 am

The Dragons return to home action this Sunday as they welcome Whitley Warriors to The Den.

In what has been a roller-coaster season for The Dragons, they find themselves propping up the Moralee Conference in 8th place, one point away from safety. With only three games left, not only time, but points are running out for the Flintshire based side to collect.

With the season drawing to a close, the league table is the tightest it has ever been with Blackburn Hawks, Telford Tigers and The Dragons fighting to avoid relegation. Coach Mckenzie believes his team has what it takes to stay in the Moralee Conference;

“The next three games are massive for us and it all starts this Sunday at home to Whitley. We have given a good account of ourselves this season and we don’t feel like we deserve to be relegated, but that’s the nature of a good league. It has been nip and tuck all year and with just the three games left, we will do everything we can to stay in this conference. We have set the target in the room of 4 points out of 6 and I do believe that is a realistic target. I urge the fans to get down to The Den this Sunday and be that extra player on the ice. Whitley are a tough team but we can compete with them, we know this, it just comes down to character and temperament. The boys are ready, get behind us and help us stay up!”

A win on Sunday could push The Dragons out of the relegation spot but with both Blackburn and Telford also playing games any outcome is possible.

Last weekend was a tough weekend on the road for The Dragons. It began with 3-1 loss to Sutton on Saturday, the lone Dragons goal scored by Ross Kennedy. On Sunday evening The Dragons made the long journey up to Billingham. Goals from Scott Mckenzie, James Parsons and Ryan Kemp weren’t enough to prevent a 6-3 loss to the 2nd place side from the North East.

Face off this Sunday is at 5:45pm with doors opening at 5pm. Tickets are available on the door priced at Adults £7 and Children £3. For more information contact; scott.mckenzie@dragonsicehockey.co.uk.
