Dragons Pre Season Round-up

Submitted by on 29/08/2017 – 6:00 pm

The Dragons completed their pre season with a double header weekend against the Altrincham Aces. Both teams battled hard for 120 minutes with The Dragons getting the better of their Mancunian opposition during both encounters. Saturday night saw The Dragons travel along the M56 to the Altrincham Ice Dome to face an Aces side that have a very different look to previous seasons. Adding a number of former Blackburn Eagles league winners to their roster along side new imports, the Aces look to be a formidable force in the NIHL2 Laidler Conference this season. However, it would be the Dragons that would come out on top in Altrincham. A hat-trick from Chris ‘Monkey’ Jones as well as markers from Alex Parry and Andy Chappell, gave The Dragons a narrow 5-4 victory over the hosts. The Aces tied the game up at 4-4 with under two minites remaining but Chris Jones sealed his hat-trick with the game winning goal to break the tie and seal victory for the travelling Dragons. Jones himself would pick up a well deserved man of the match award. The following night saw The return leg as the Aces travelled West along the M56 to The Den. A Dragons side still missing key players took an early 4-0 lead, somewhat stunning the visiting Aces and settling the home side into the game. The Dragons continued to build on their excellent start, eventually running out 10-4 winners. A great team display with goals coming from Chris Jones (3), Alex Parry, James Parsons, Scott Mckenzie, Matt Wainwright, Owen Bennett, Louis Morgan and Gavin Austin. Man of the match went to Matt Wainwright who scored perhaps goal of the season. One to watch out for in the BASN highlights. Special mention to Louis Morgan and Owen Bennett who scored their first goals for The Dragons.
