An excellent first trials night for The Dragons saw over 30 players in attendance, including 5 netminders, all interested in securing a place with the team. Head Coach Gary Shaw was impressed with the numbers, there was  ‘a good tempo, with plenty of people there, a good selection with varied abilities’”  It’s been a while since the players were on the ice, so they need …

The Dragons announced a new major partnership, the new General Manager, the Head Coach, and the Manager for the forthcoming season

Submitted by on 08/06/2018 – 6:01 pm

The Dragons are pleased to announce a new partnership for the coming season, Aura Leisure and Libraries,  who will offer support to help grow The Dragons as a sustainable and successful club.  Newly appointed General Manager Ian Foster, a long-time supporter and key figure within the club, will once again take the reins of the club and is finalising the on and off-ice teams that will take the club forward to the new season with renewed drive and commitment.

We are also pleased to announce that for the forthcoming season, Gary Shaw will take the role of Head Coach, with Bruce Morton taking the Manager’s role.  Both Gary and Bruce have been involved with The Dragons for many years:

Gary has been a popular key figure within ice hockey at Deeside for many years, as both a player within the senior team, under the Deeside Dragons banner and then as Flintshire Freeze, where he also took on a coaching role. In additional to this he has been a long serving head coach for the junior club for many years, where he coached many of the current Dragons players.  We were very fortunate last season when Gary stepped in to coach the team again, following the departure of the clubs previous management team. With Gary’s involvement and working closely alongside Nigel Ryland, himself a long serving and valued club member, we saw many former players returning to the team, providing a boost to the existing players and the fans who stayed loyal and stuck with the team.

Bruce is also a popular and valuable member of the ice hockey community at Deeside, having been involved with the team for many years, in both assistant manager and team manager roles, as well as playing at recreation level as a player when he can fit it in.

Open Trials:    The Dragons will be holding open trials for players wanting to be part of the 2018/19 team. These will take place on Wednesday the 4th & 11th July 10.30pm-11.30pm

There will be further details over the coming days of our first signings, coaching team and the off-ice team. So keep watching, there’s more great news to come!!
